Disaster recovery. Are you prepared?

Can you afford to take the risk?

What would you do if a disaster hits your IT systems.
-Server failure, Fire, Flood, Etc.

The important questions which could spring to mind in the event of a disaster...

1-When was my system last backed up?
2-How much data / information have I lost?
3-How do I get back up and running as quickly as posible?
4- Who should I contact?

The answer's to all these questions should be in a disaster recovery plan.

The real question is
Do you have a Disaster Recovery plan in place?

A disaster is an unscheduled interruption of service of a major computer or communications system from which Information Technology staff cannot recover using daily operating procedures.
Here are some examples of IT disasters:
• A fire occurs in the computer room causing the water fire sprinklers to discharge. The water discharge into operating computers causes many or most to electrically short out. The systems then are down and cannot be restored to service with normal, daily procedures.
• A storm causes high winds and flooding, the server room is damaged when the window glass breaks and debris from the storm enters the room. All servers are physically damaged and will not restart with normal, daily procedures.
• A fire in the computer room disables only the communications equipment. The plant is still fully functional but manufacturing is crippled with the loss of access to the ERP system.

An Information Technology disaster is restricted to the facilities and systems maintained by the IT department in the United Kingdom. If another unusual event occurs but all defined systems are functioning normally, it is not an IT disaster.
